Freedom Lovers Celebrate Juneteenth

Around the country people are celebrating Juneteenth this week. Juneteenth is the oldest celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States. The achievement is typically celebrated on June 19th.

On that date in 1865, the last enslaved people were freed after the Civil War. Many gather to commemorate the day with food, music and art. The holiday is recognized in over 43 states and Washington D.C.
