NYC to Require Proof of Vaccination for Indoor Dining, Theatres, Gyms

This morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that New York City will now be requiring proof of vaccination for all indoor dining, theatres, and gyms.

The policy will begin later in August -- and is expected to be fully enforced by mid-September.

"It is time for people to see vaccinations as literally necessary to living a good, full and healthy life," he said. "If you're unvaccinated, unfortunately, you will not be able to participate in many things."

Residents can show proof of vaccination with their physical vaccination card, the city's new app, or New York State's Excelsior app. However, if you're a New Yorker dining outside at a restaurant, proof of vaccination will not be required.

According to data, 66% of New York City's residents are fully vaccinated.

“If you want to participate in our society fully, you’ve got to get vaccinated," the mayor said. "It’s time.”
