It's never been more important to know what's going on in our community, and to break out of the echo chambers online. That's why Andrew J. Polk is dedicated to keeping people informed about issues that affect people right here in the Borderland.

Andrew was born in Washington, D.C., but grew up in El Paso. He got his first media job while in middle school, working as a camera assistant, and eventually as a production assistant and cameraman for his father’s documentary production company. He graduated from El Paso’s Franklin High School in 2007, where he was a reporter for The Franklin Chronicle and president of the debate team.

At Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., he wrote for The Knox Student newspaper. He also hosted and produced The Steam Tunnel Network, a news/talk show on the campus radio station, WVKC. Andrew spent the fall of his senior year in Washington, D.C., as a reporting fellow with the Scripps Howard News Foundation. His focus was covering Capitol Hill and the White House for newspapers across the country during the tumultuous midterm elections of 2010 and the Tea Party wave.

After graduating from Knox in 2011 with a degree in political science, Andrew came home to the Sun City. He worked as the webmaster and online coordinator for El Paso Inc., the weekly business journal, and produced reports for The El Paso History Journal. Andrew joined KVIA ABC-7 as a photographer in April 2013, and was promoted to Multimedia Journalist in October 2013, working breaking news on the overnight shift for Good Morning El Paso. He would go on to do regular coverage of City Council and El Paso County Commissioners Court. Andrew was named the anchor for Good Morning El Paso Weekend in March 2015, producing and hosting morning newscasts at 6 and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, while reporting during the week.

Andrew joined the iHeartRadio family in early 2017, first with a special series of radio productions centered around the 2017 El Paso mayoral elections and culminating in a live on-air debate with seven candidates. He developed a new program to focus on issues affecting the Borderland called Talk El Paso and continued to work on special projects with local iHeartRadio stations. Since September 2018, Andrew has hosted and produced Talk El Paso every Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. on News Radio 690 KTSM. In addition, he hosts and produces The El Paso Public Forum, which airs Sundays on all local iHeartRadio stations and focuses on local non-profits, community groups and public affairs issues. Since January 2020, Andrew also fills in as producer and co-host of The Tipping Point with Mike Tipton, which airs from 5-6 p.m. weekdays on Fox Sports 1380.

In his spare time, Andrew enjoys hiking, camping, photography and learning more about and sharing the rich history of his hometown. To reach Andrew with a story idea or guest segment, email
