Florida Cops Find Alligator In Backseat Of Alleged Burglar's Getaway Car

Grant Belcher

Police in Florida made an odd discovery in the back seat of the getaway car of a man accused of trying to break into a truck. They didn't find any drugs, guns or stolen items - instead, they found a baby alligator with its mouth taped shut stuffed inside of a trashcan.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were responding to reports that a man, later identified as 32-year-old Grant Belcher, was attempting to burglarize a white pickup truck. When the truck's alarm went off, Belcher jumped into the passenger's seat of a waiting Chevy Impala which quickly sped away. Police officers were on scene to witness the car leaving and they chased the suspects onto the campus of East River High School.

Police took Belcher and the driver, 30-year-old Megan Forbes, into custody. As they searched the Impala, they discovered the alligator in the back seat.

Authorities said that Belcher has been charged with burglary to a conveyance, alligator poaching, and trespassing on school grounds. Forbes has not been charged as of yet and has denied any involvement with Belcher's alleged crimes.
