Winter Storm Killed Large Numbers Of Bats In Texas

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is investigating reports of large numbers of bat fatalities after last week's severe cold. The state agency posted updates on Facebook about bat colonies that were found frozen under bridges and overpasses statewide. The bat colony under Waugh Drive in Houston reportedly took a bad hit. Suzanne Jurek, the bat specialist at the Houston Zoo, says many cold-shocked bats in Houston were taken to a rehab facility near Lake Jackson. Parks and Wildlife warns Texans never to handle bats, living or dead.
