Texas Legislature Considers Fees On Electric Cars To Replace Gasoline Tax

The Texas Legislature is considering a fee on electric cars and hybrids to make up for the gasoline sales taxes their owners aren't paying. Gas taxes pay for much of the cost of road construction and maintenance in Texas. A little over one-percent of the state's more than 25-million vehicles are electric or hybrids. Efforts to enact fees on them have failed in earlier sessions of the state legislature, but support for the idea is reportedly growing.
