Former NFL cornerback Kelvin Joseph Jr. was arrested in relation to a fatal car crash in Texas, according to arrest records obtained by the New York Post on Sunday (June 8).

Joseph, 25, who last appeared in an NFL game for the Seattle Seahawks in 2023, was charged with driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor) and collision involving personal injury or death (felony) in relation to the incident. The Richardson Police Department shared a Facebook post confirming it received a call from Joseph in which he admitted to being involved in a car crash at 5:39 a.m. local time.

"At approximately 5:39 a.m., the Plano Police Department received a call from Kelvin Joseph Jr., a 25-year old resident of Allen, who advised he had been involved in the crash," the department wrote. "Richardson Police Department Officers contacted Joseph and determined he was northbound on North Central Expressway in a BMW sedan when he was involved in a collision with the motorcycle. While speaking with Joseph, officers observed signs of intoxication."

Joseph, who was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second-round of the 2021 NFL Draft, had previously been in the vehicle of a suspected gunman during a 2022 shooting in Dallas, though he was cleared of any wrongdoing as police concluded that he wasn't the shooter.

“We obviously don’t need our players to be involved in situations that make this come up about your character,” said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at the time via the New York Post. “He needs to be a good player on and off the field and we’re going to give him a chance to do that. [Our message to him is] Now get in here and be a good player, be a guy everybody depends on, and make your name in a positive way and clean it up.”

Joseph appeared in 26 games for the Cowboys during his first two NFL seasons before being traded to the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2023 season. The former University of Kentucky standout played in just four games for the Dolphins before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks midway through the season and has been on multiple NFL teams' practice squads but hasn't appeared in a game since.

Joseph is currently on the roster of the UFL's DC Defenders, having appeared in nine games during the 2025 season.
