At least two people have died and 14 others were injured during a mass shooting that took place in Montgomery, Alabama, after a college football game, authorities confirmed via the Montgomery Advertiser.

One woman was among the casualties and at least two children experienced injuries, including one reported to be facing life-threatening conditions, according to Montgomery Police Department Chief James Graboys. The incident took place in a popular tourist district following the game between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College, both of which are historically Black colleges in Alabama.

Fairground attractions including a ferris wheel, were set up in the area prior to the game. The shooting reportedly involved two rival groups and took place at 11:30 p.m. local time and escalated into a gun battle, which included suspects firing wildly into a crowd of people, with bystanders being struck, according to Graboys.

“This was two parties involved that were basically shooting at each other in the middle of a crowd,” he said via AL.com, claiming that the shooters “did not care about the people around them when they did it.”

No arrests have been made as of Sunday (October 5) morning. Twelve of the 14 victims reported in the incident remain hospitalized, according to Montgomery Police Department Lt. Tina McGriff via the Montgomery Advertiser.

“In total, three victims remain in life-threatening condition, and nine sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” McGriff said.
